About the Orchestra:
Founded 39 years ago, the organization has gone through a recent rebranding with the new name of Chicago Orchestral Academy. There are 2 orchestras in the COA, Classical Symphony Orchestra and Protégé Philharmonic. Protégé Philharmonic builds the future of classical music through the cultivation of young high school artists, which includes orchestral training opportunities, chamber music ensembles, soloists and composers.
The audition-only orchestra includes members from throughout the Chicago metropolitan area and northwest Indiana, ranging from advanced junior high through high school students. The Philharmonic provides professional orchestra training and members receive coaching from accomplished professional Chicago area musicians.
The orchestra performs four concert programs every regular season and two concerts during the summer season in the Auditorium of the Salme Harju Steinberg Fine Arts Center at Northeastern Illinois University. Rehearsals are held at Classical Symphony Hall, 218 South Wabash Avenue and rehearsals are open to the public. Last year's graduating seniors were awarded over $250,00 in scholarships to colleges and universities all over the United States.
